Kitchen preparation associate

Job Description

  • This position is the main preparer for all Roots signature Grab & Go items. Preparing food items, from washing and ensuring proper quality to garnishing items to go straight into the case for sale. Attention to detail and critical thinking skills are crucial to success in this role. 

Specifications

  • Permanent part-time of 10-20 hours per week. 

  • $13-$15/hour based on experience. 

  • Hours are flexible on the day of the week and time of day. 

  • This may require some commitment to weekend/holiday hours if available. 

  • Flexibility with fluctuating hours is essential.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Food Preparation

    • Ensuring food quality and consistency across recipes ensures all customers get the same experience whenever they come to Roots. 

    • Monitoring food waste levels and making decisions for the following weeks based on the findings. 

  • Inventory/Ordering

    • Participate in the ordering and planning of inventory.

    • Monitoring and resolving all inventory levels and issues.

    • Having a good knowledge of commonly used food items/ingredients in recipes, grab & go, etc. 

  • Grab & Go

    • Making, preparing, and executing the items needed for proper preparation and utilization by the team to keep a well-stocked inventory. 

  • Cleaning/Kitchen Upkeep

    • Following all kitchen procedures (i.e., cleaning, sanitization, organization, etc.)

Skills & Competencies

  • Use a basic kitchen knife.

  • Read and understand recipes and proper conversions.

  • Understand basic units of measuring and weighing ingredients.

  • Understand and execute proper sanitation procedures and hand washing. 

  • Know where ingredients belong and are located in the kitchen area. 

  • Prioritize items and to-dos on highest to lowest priority.

  • Self-sustaining efforts to find tasks to complete in downtime. 

  • Critical thinking skills to be creative in not black-and-white situations. 

  • Ability to be a team player at all times. 

  • Time management skills to track hours, take proper breaks, etc. 

  • Motivation to do tasks outside of what is expected at times. 

  • Have a passion for great service, personal touch with classes, and attention to detail on all products.
